This page covers the Sconce app and this website.
What Sconce stores
Sconce keeps your collections and settings on your device. There are no accounts and nothing to sign in to.
We receive anonymous usage stats: the app and its version, the platform, when it was first opened and how long it has been in use, whether the Pro page was seen or bought, which of our links brought you to the app, and the country the request came from. We use them to see how the apps are used and where they find their audience. We do not keep the connection address, and nothing in the stats identifies you or your phone.
Purchases
Sconce Pro is a one-time purchase handled by the store you bought it from: Google Play on Android, the App Store on iPhone. We never see your payment details. Google's handling is covered by Google's privacy policy, and Apple's by Apple's privacy policy. The app keeps an on-device record that Pro is unlocked.
When a Pro purchase completes, the store tells us, so we can count sales. We are told which app and which product, not who bought it.
Casting
If you cast, Sconce sends the photos and videos you picked to your Chromecast or Google TV over your own network, and your TV loads the display page from this site. Casting uses Google's Cast framework and is covered by Google's privacy policy. Each time the display page is loaded we count it: the time and whether it was a TV or a browser, and nothing else. No IP address and no identifier are kept.
Your photos and videos
Photos and videos arrive through the system pickers, which hand the app only what you selected. Sconce makes a smaller copy of a photo in its own private storage so it can be sent quickly and turned the right way up; the original stays where it was. Videos are read where they already live and are sent to your TV as they play, over your own Wi-Fi. If your TV cannot play a video, Sconce can convert it; the converted copy lives in Sconce's own storage on the phone, Copies on this phone in Settings shows how much room they take, and Clear copies removes them. The original is never changed. Removing an item from a collection removes only Sconce's copy. We never upload either.
Background sound
A collection can play a background sound under its photos. The sounds that come with Sconce are ordinary files on this site, fetched by your television the same way it fetches the display page. If you pick an audio file of your own instead, it is read from your phone and sent to your TV over your own network, exactly as a photo is. We never upload it.
This website
No cookies, no accounts and nothing to sign up for. The web server keeps a standard access log for up to 30 days, and we do not count page views. The one exception is the TV display page, described under Casting above. The one other exception is a visit that arrives from one of our own ads: we count it once, with the time, the ad it came from, the country and the device type, and nothing that identifies you.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which handles requests on our behalf; Cloudflare's privacy policy describes how it handles data as our provider. Some pages link out to other services such as Google Play, which are covered by their own privacy policies, not this one.
Children
Sconce is a general-audience app.
