Terms of use

These terms govern your use of the Sconce app (“the app”). By installing or using the app, you agree to them.

The app

Sconce is a photo & video caster, provided as-is. It shows photos and videos you already have on your phone on a Chromecast or Google TV device on your own network. It keeps your playlists on your device and is not a backup or storage service — it sends nothing to us, and we hold no copy of anything you cast.

What it needs to work

Casting depends on things we do not control: your home network, your Chromecast or Google TV device, and Google's Cast framework and its services. Your phone and your TV must be on the same network and able to reach each other. Some routers deliberately keep devices apart — guest networks and similar settings — and casting cannot work through that. Videos are streamed from your phone while they play, so the phone needs to stay awake and connected for as long as a video runs; a photo show does not.

Early Access

While Sconce is in Early Access it is a released app that is still changing: features can be added, altered or withdrawn between builds, and updates arrive automatically. The rest of these terms apply in full.

Licence

You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use. You may not resell, redistribute, or reverse-engineer the app except where such restriction is prohibited by law.

Purchases

Sconce is free to install, with an optional one-time purchase made through the store you installed the app from — Google Play or the App Store. There is no subscription and nothing renews. It can be restored on any device signed into the same store account — Play's normal restore mechanism for a Google account, Restore Purchases for an Apple Account. Refunds follow that store's policy, and the purchase is handled entirely by the store: we never see your payment details.

Your content

The photos, videos and playlists you put in Sconce are yours. Sconce does not upload them, and what it shows on a television is a copy of files you chose — you remain responsible for having the right to use and display whatever you cast, including where you cast it.

No warranty

The app is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep it stable and pleasant to use, but we cannot guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other consumer protection law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Zone7 Studios Pty Ltd is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the app. Where our liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to resupplying the app or paying the cost of having it resupplied.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version always lives on this page, with the date it last changed.
